Commonplace is an idea networking website where university students come together as authors, critics, and editors to produce intelligent commentary on the social and cultural issues they find important. Featuring essays on a variety of topics and (soon!) in a variety of print and digital media, the goal of Commonplace is to put student ideas and writing where they should be: in public.
If you are interested in utilizing Commonplace at your university, please email us at
Learning_Solutions@mcgraw-hill.com.
Commonplace is currently accepting submissions for its upcoming issues. Commonplace has three thematic commitments: submissions must be timely, submissions must be relevant, and submissions must be compelling to Commonplace's diverse student readership.
Submissions are refereed by an anonymous peer-review process, made up of the readers of Commonplace. Pieces are chosen on a variety of topics and in support of a variety of ideological and political positions. Historically, Commonplace has accepted pieces that advance an original and purposeful argument; that are composed in a clear and energetic way; and that contribute meaningfully to an ongoing public discussion.
